The Beginning
After graduating high school, Mikaela moved to New York City to attend The American Academy of Dramatic Arts for their acting conservatory program. She studied under numerous teachers who have allowed her to be her most authentic self and, with that in mind, helped build upon her career as a comedian. During her time at the Academy, growth and exploration were at the forefront of her education, as well as learning how to execute her skills efficiently and effectively every time.
Along with the core curriculum (ie. technique, movement, voice and speech, etc.), she acquired in depth knowledge of the industry and how to navigate it with confidence. Respect and appreciation of the collective is a priority and something one often notes when working with Mikaela. While her strengths are being in front of the camera or on stage, she enjoys the process of getting to work behind the scenes to direct or assist with lights and sound, as she so often did while working at the well known comedy club, Caroline’s On Broadway.
Since graduating from The Academy in 2017, Mikaela has worked in theatre, student films, web series, and online content, as well as background work for feature films. Over the last few years she has engulfed herself in the comedy world and has performed in many venues throughout NYC, including Caroline’s On Broadway and Broadway Comedy Club. She was previously performing improv with with her troupe at The PAN Theater is Oakland, CA. Her motto is, “I find great joy in making other people laugh and helping them deal with the difficult things in life through humor. Not everyone can afford therapy, so the rest of us will have to laugh through the pain, okay?”
Mikaela trains throughout the year to stay fresh and improve her craft constantly. She has taken acting classes with working actor David Dean Bottrell; studied with notable teacher Heidi Carlson at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco; completed Improv 101 and 201 at The Upright Citizens Brigade NY; performed and trained with the PAN Theater in California; incorporated movement into her acting process at The Lucid Body House in New York; performed with LA Connection Comedy in monthly virtual improv shows on YouTube Live. She works as a Local Hire in New York, California and Texas.
In her free time, she likes to read all sorts of books, practice yoga, create graphic designs, educate herself, journal, bake muffins, and create content for her cat’s social media (@PistachioFromBrooklyn). Mikaela is an advocate for mental health, environmentalism, and animal rescues. Stay tuned for updates and follow her on Instagram for the latest memes and shenanigans that is her life!
